| Parallel Import is really disturbing, most of the times if not all of the times, it takes years in marketing and promotions and when your goal has been finally achieved, which is making the products a leading brand, by creating, in close contact with your principals and your sales-force a demand, suddenly you see all your efforts go down the drain, as several retailers begin ordering direct from wholesalers abroad and some time at a lower price. Due to their huge market, these wholesalers are able to obtain the best available price through volume purchase. This is not possible for us, consequently, we are not able to compete against this. Now if the retailer, buying our products from abroad, would lower their retail price, then at least the consumer would benefit. | Why not buy from the local distributor, who managed to create a demand for the product? Why should this by-pass happened? How and in what possible way, besides the already mentioned, can we, as exclusive importer/ distributor, stop this practice ? All these questions need an answer, which, much to my regret up to now no one can give. The only remark I have is," Is the huge domestic abroad, volume wise not sufficient profitable enough, that interference in our small scale market from these wholesalers should take place, competing against our longstanding import /distribution system ?" Having to compete as importer / wholesaler, on two fronts, the parallel import on one side and the competitor on the other side is a daily task that every management and salesperson has to face and monitor from close by. | |
